PHILOSOPHY
The BBL Academy provides year round training that is ideal for establishing, improving and mastering the individual skills needed to be an outstanding lacrosse player. We have charted out the individual skills a player would need on the lacrosse field and then developed these concepts into class categories to help encapsulate the concepts within various curriculums. Each line of training has its own curriculum and unique set of class plans, as well as an evaluation process to track player development. This format serves players of all positions, and will teach forward thinking players that it is vital to be skilled both offensively and defensively because of the universality of these skills on the lacrosse field. Classes are offered under the following disciplines. If you are interested in any level of play, contact BBL at info@BuildingBlockslacrosee.com.
INTRO TO LACROSSE: For players who are new to the sport or less experienced. This is a fun-intensive course, meant to grow a love of the sport while educating on the elementary skills taught within our program. Players will develop a broad base of introductory skills and then hone their use within friendly game competitions. This is a perfect class for beginner players who are unsure if they want to pursue the sport, and players who want to gain more confidence before they move into more skill intensive development.
PRODIGY PROGRAM: This program is designed for more advanced players in grades 3 - 5. Often this age group is the least served, and we are now changing that with a very fun, top-of-the-line developmental program. This is the ideal learning environment for players who have older siblings or parents who have played lacrosse (and therefore have exited the womb with a stick in hand) or players who have learned at an early age that lacrosse is something they love and want to excel at. This program is open to all players who want to experience a higher degree of learning developmental, team-sports IQ development, lacrosse specific stick skills and 1 v.1 skills. Level 1 Stick Skills: Using unique exercises BBL has formulated a program that we feel is the best way to develop the key stick skills (outside of checking and shooting) in lacrosse. Our system immediately aims towards creating ambidextrous skills, and quickly targets muscle memory to get the fastest development possible. Level 2 Dominating One vs. One Situations: We isolate many 1 vs. 1 scenarios that a player will experience all around the field, teach the specific skills needed to win within those moments, and then continuously run through spirited 1 vs.1 competitions to get the players more and more skilled in winning these battles.
SPECIALTY TRAINING: Shooting and Dodging Level 1: BBL is an innovator in developing shooting skills. Over the course of 5 years, we have designed a brand new approach to developing players’ shooting forms – new philosophies, new exercises with major results. We believe every player can benefit from the ever expansive world of throwing forms and shooting training due to the very specific importance of this skill. Because of the detail through which we approach this program, we have multiple levels for players that go through the program. In Level 1 players will develop ambidextrous throwing forms for overhand, sidearm and backhand, as well as dodging abilities into shots, set shooting forms, and off ball techniques into shots. Shooting and Dodging Level 2: This class builds off of the foundation of Level 1 Shooting/Dodging training by continuously refining the existing built skills while adding new throwing forms to enhance – such as low to high, worm burner, and behind the backs. We also add more specific dodge moves from various spots on offense, enhanced faking abilities, and refining “finishing” skills around the goal.
POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING: Defensive Training: This class focuses on defining and refining the skills needed to succeed as a defender. Improves general defense-specific reactive footwork using exercises from the best Division 1 programs. Teaches defensive footwork, arm work and stick work for 1 v. 1s from each of the 7 offensive initiation spots. Focuses on other defense specific skills for ground balls, long distance throwing, and more. Offensive Training: This class focuses on developing the offensive skills needed to succeed in 1 vs. 1 situations, initiated from spots around the settled offense. In the first 30 minutes of class, players will build up a skill set of footwork, stick work, and "dodge moves." In the last 30 minutes, players will apply these skills in 1 vs. 1s against live defenders. Face Offs / Draws: Being great at face offs /draws is a distinct advantage for players and teams. BBL is on a mission to provide the finest face off training in the state to not only benefit our own travel teams, but also help players become dominant forces on their youth and high school teams, and potentially use these talents to get recruited for college.
MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUES: Friday Night Lights (boys) and Saturday Stars (girls) Leagues are a great opportunity to learn, have fun and be challenged through competition. However, we believe there are ways to improve the “League” training format. In the invite only 5 v. 5 league, everyone plays offense and defense, enhancing all around skills and learning. The smaller format increases the amount of touches and the amount of direct plays each player is involved in. The reduced field size increases the number of plays that occur in each game, and drastically enhances the speed of the game.
BUILDING BLOCKS ELITE: Building Blocks elite classes serve our premier players who train through a series of “invite only”* classes. We also offer a player development program (PDP) for those players who are not yet ready for our premiere classes, but wish to train at an extremely high skill level. Player Development Program (PDP) for HS Girls – Intensive upper level training for High School players PDP focuses on the same curriculum as the Premiere program for players who are not quite as advanced as the Premiere players. PDP players can move up to the Premiere program. A BBL evaluation is necessary before being invited to join this high level of training. Premier Program for HS Boys & Girls – Intensive upper level training for high school players A little known secret is that Building Blocks Lacrosse already trains many of the best players in the state from the various travel organizations. We understand these relationships and do not encourage players to leave their programs just to receive our training. The elite player development. Premier Program assembles the best players in the area to train together twice a week – first in team play development practice and then in a highly competitive league game. By having these star players in one group, we provide them with a highly competitive and educational environment which increases their development. This program is intended for players striving to play for D1 and high end D3 colleges. *”Invite Only” Classes are high level classes created to provide our elite players with the proper training environments where they can thrive. Players can be invited once BBL has evaluated their ability in a class or tryout.
Building Blocks Lacrosse Elite Travel Team Program is a terrific opportunity for High School players to gain exposure to college coaches and upper level competition. Our Middle School Teams allow for our strong middle school players to play lacrosse at the highest of competition against teams from across the country. Our model is not a short, six week June - July window, it is a comprehensive program, designed solely with the athlete's development in mind. We field both Fall/Winter and Summer Travel Teams.
